WATCH: Will Smith says he would not be where he is today without faith in the Lord

US actor Will Smith has recently shared the role that faith has played in his life during an interview with friend and producer Devon Franklin.

The pair were discussing Smith´s new movie, King Richard, which narrates the story of Venus and Serena Williams. Smith plays the role of the father and first coach of the tennis stars, Richard Dove Williams Jr, who is depicted as a man of deep faith.

Franklin asked: "For the 25 years that I have known you, for everybody that knows that you have played a role in my life, in the church, the number one question is: 'Is Will a man of faith'?"

"You can't get where I get if you don't love the Lord, you don't get to sit how I sit, move how I move if you don't love the Lord. You'd be seeing a whole lot of other repercussions," Smith replied.

Franklin, who is also a preacher, went on to ask Smith how he connected with the faith of the Williams family when performing the role.

"You and I have talked about my relationship with my grandmother," Smith continued.

'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' actor grew up going to church with his grandmother who used to attend the Resurrection Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Smith continued: "So that concept of faith and that power of faith, I might be going a little too deep here, but there's a distinction. There's faith in God and then there's knowledge of God."

"So there's revelation. Some people have had revelation. So when you have to have faith, faith is before you've had revelation," he added, referring to the mother of Venus and Serena Williams, Oracene Price.

"You have to have faith. That's what Mrs. Oracene [had]. She's so solid that she is completely, thoroughly and totally certain. She doesn't walk in doubt."

Faith plays an important role in the movie as it shows how both Serena and Venus Williams were raised as Jehovah Witnesses by their mother. They have been previously outspoken about their faith thanking "Jehovah God" for their successes in the tennis court.

When asked about how he wants people to connect with the message of the movie, Smith said: "The simplicity of aligning your will with divine will. You don't have to have fear, you don't have to have doubt when you are in sync with your faith. And those things, doubt and fear are in the absence of God and faith, "he concluded.
